Frequently Asked Questions

Microneedling with PRP is a skin care modality that works to promote collagen production through the use of tiny needles and platelet rich plasma.

Microneedling can be used on the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands. It can also be used on the abdomen and thighs, but it’s not recommended for use on the bikini area or genitals.

Microneedling is a relatively new procedure that has been growing in popularity due to its many benefits. It’s a non-invasive treatment that uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body to produce collagen and elastin, which are essential for healthy skin.

The results are a reduction in wrinkles and fine lines, improved skin tone and texture, and reduced scarring.

The cost of microneedling ranges from $300 to $1,200 per session, depending on the area treated. Mirror Mirror Med Spa offers package deals that include a set number of sessions.

Depending on the size of the treatment area, most people report 2-4 days of downtime. Some people experience redness and swelling immediately after treatment, but this usually subsides within a day or two. Most people report gradual improvement in skin tone and texture over the next few weeks.

Since the body needs time to make collagen, this treatment can take up to a month before showing results. Benefits of this treatment include but are not limited to improving:

-Acne scars
-Large pores
-Uneven skin texture
-Fine lines
-Sun damage

Just keep in mind, if you plan on healing acne scars, doing so can take up to a year. With that said, every case is different, and the results you can expect differ per person.

The results of a microneedling treatment are supposed to last for up to six months, but individual results may vary.

Generally, no more than once every three to six weeks.

Typically two treatments, three weeks apart are administered at Mirror Mirror Med Spa. However, if desired results are not seen after four to six months, additional treatments can be used for improvement. Typically, four to six treatments are performed every three to four months.

We certainly think so, but the answer is different for everyone. To find out whether or not this treatment is right for you, call us at (310) 909-9747.

The best candidates for this treatment are those who want to improve fine lines, skin tone issues, loose skin, and mild-to-moderate scarring.

We do not recommend this treatment for people with:

-Major skin disorders that would require surgery to fix
-Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
-Those with serious skin infections or wounds
-Those who have undergone radiation therapy
-Those taking certain skin medications

Those with rosacea or eczema might not be well-suited for this treatment either, although if you have these conditions, we would recommend getting a consultation with us to see if you can benefit.

You’ll be happy to know that this treatment works for all Fitzpatrick skin types.

The treatment does come with some pain since needles have to pierce your skin. You can expect to feel some
stinging or pinching. To make the treatment easier for you, we have topical numbing cream available.

While microneedling combined with PRP is certainly more effective, microneedling by itself comes with plenty of benefits, such as reducing fine lines and wrinkles, tightening the skin, and improving the appearance of scars.

Microneedling without the added platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a great option for those who want to enjoy the benefits of this skin care modality while also saving money.

You’ll want to avoid wearing makeup until your skin heals. To learn more about what you should and should not do, call us today.

We provide safe, effective, and minimally invasive services to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of our patients.

Microneedling Research

Although microneedling has been around since ancient China, it didn’t really start coming into prominence until the late 1900s, thanks to pioneers like Dr. Desmond Fernandes and Dr. Andre Camirand.

Now practiced in med spas all around the world, many people have benefited from this wonderful skin care modality.

The key concept behind microneedling is to create tiny injuries to the skin in order to stimulate the production of collagen-rich tissue.

According to a clinical study by the medical journal Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, microneedling has “shown promising results as an adjuvant therapy for enhanced drug delivery in the treatment of atrophic scars, alopecia, actinic keratoses, and disorders of pigmentation such as melasma.”
