We’ve been getting this question a lot from people who are interested in treatment but are concerned about the quality of their results.
The answer: Lip injections last three to 18 months.
Collagen injections are on the short end of the spectrum, while a high-quality lip filler like Juvederm Vollure™ outlasts most other fillers.
Note: Collagen injections aren’t used much anymore, in part because of their short lifespan but also because they tend to cause infections.
Do Lip Fillers Change Your Lips Forever?
Usually, no. Most lips fillers are temporary, as they are slowly absorbed by your body over the course of several months.
The reason your body is able to absorb most lip fillers is that they are made of synthetic hyaluronic acid, which is a type of sugar that naturally occurs in the body.
Other absorbable lip fillers include those made from calcium hydroxyapatite, which is found in human bones and those made from Poly-L-lactic acid, a biodegradable substance.
Some lip fillers use polymethylmethacrylate beads, which are NOT biodegradable and lead to permanent changes in your appearance.
Temporary lip fillers can also permanently change your appearance if they are misused.
Receiving too many injections in a short span of time or getting too much filler injected in one sitting can permanently stretch or scar your lips and also lead to significant health issues.
